In Billboard's Top 100 in 2015 had two tracks that were mostly in the Spanish languages, while the year 2016 saw four. The popularity of Despacito peaked in 2017. After Justin Bieber's remix in two languages of Despacito (2017) popular musicians soon started collaborating with reggaeton performers including Drake and Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) and Madonna and Maluma on Medellin (2019). The year 2000 saw a number of reggaeton artists were expressing displeasure at the genre's direction toward the mainstream. However, a younger generation, led by Rauw Alejandro was determined to ensure that reggaeton was evolving. The incorporation of elements from electronic dance music, and various other genres was a typical practice.
