Formerly a top fashion model, almost 5'10'' tall, Carey was popular with top American designers, including Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren. She is the daughter of an outstanding geologist who in 1979 was named Scientist of the year in 1979 by the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists. The father of Carey was a geologist and traveled around the world as part of his professional career. When she finished her studies at the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs, she began modeling on the side. The idea caught the attention of an agent at Ford Model Agency New York. She briefly lived and studied in Paris prior to returning to New York. Her modeling and academic career rocketed and she appeared on Glamour's, Vogue's and a variety of other magazines' covers. As a model, she attended New York University full-time to get a literature degree. She became more interested in acting and started studying with the Neighborhood Playhouse of New York. In 1986 she had her first role in acting which was a part of Club Paradise, with Robin Williams. White water rafting, skis as well as rock climbing are some of her most loved pursuits.
